Emergency care differs based on the type of injury involved. You may require a minor filling or, in some situations, a procedure such as a root canal. You’ll be included in every step of the planning process. Our immediate focus is to help ease your discomfort.
Time is critical. If a tooth has broken or been knocked out, try to keep the fragment moist. Avoid touching the root if there is one. Place the tooth in a sealed container to keep it safe.
Make sure the tooth is completely covered in a liquid such as contact solution, saline, or milk. If none of these are available, you can use tap water with a pinch of salt. It’s crucial to get the tooth to us within the next one to two hours to attempt to reattach or reimplant it.
Toothaches are not things that tend to improve without professional dental care. If you’re between appointments, we recommend taking an over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medication as directed to help reduce swelling. Applying a cool compress to the side of your face (nearest the tooth) may also help to dull the pain.
If severe facial swelling occurs or bleeding does not slow with steady pressure, seek immediate care at the closest emergency room.
