Time is of the essence. For broken or knocked-out teeth, it’s important to keep the fractured portion hydrated. Take care not to handle it by the root, if possible. Store the tooth in a sealed container so that you won’t lose it.
Keep the tooth covered in a suitable liquid, such as saline, milk, or contact solution. If unavailable, tap water mixed with a little salt will do. It’s important to bring the tooth to us within one to two hours so we can attempt reattachment or reimplantation.
Toothaches rarely improve without seeing a dental professional. If your appointment is still upcoming, you may use an over-the-counter anti-inflammatory as advised to help manage swelling. Holding a cool compress against the cheek near the affected tooth may help lessen discomfort.
