Emergency treatment options can vary widely depending on the situation. Some people may need a small filling, while others may require a root canal or similar procedure. You’ll be involved in the decision-making process from the start. Our main goal at the outset is to help relieve your discomfort.
Acting quickly is important. In cases of broken or dislodged teeth, keep the affected piece hydrated and refrain from holding it by the root. Store the tooth securely in a sealed container.
Make sure the tooth stays fully immersed in milk, saline, or contact solution. If none are available, tap water with a pinch of salt is acceptable. Reaching us within one to two hours is important so we can attempt to reattach or reimplant the tooth.
Toothaches rarely improve without seeing a dental professional. If your appointment is still upcoming, you may use an over-the-counter anti-inflammatory as advised to help manage swelling. Holding a cool compress against the cheek near the affected tooth may help lessen discomfort.
