Emergency care differs based on the type of injury involved. You may require a minor filling or, in some situations, a procedure such as a root canal. You’ll be included in every step of the planning process. Our immediate focus is to help ease your discomfort.
Acting quickly is important. In cases of broken or dislodged teeth, keep the affected piece hydrated and refrain from holding it by the root. Store the tooth securely in a sealed container.
Keep the tooth covered in a suitable liquid, such as saline, milk, or contact solution. If unavailable, tap water mixed with a little salt will do. It’s important to bring the tooth to us within one to two hours so we can attempt reattachment or reimplantation.
Toothaches usually don’t settle on their own and often need attention from a dental professional. If you’re waiting for your appointment, you may take an over-the-counter anti-inflammatory as instructed to help manage swelling. A cool compress on the cheek closest to the tooth may also help ease discomfort.
For severe facial swelling or bleeding that isn’t controlled by firm pressure, it’s important to attend the nearest emergency room promptly.
